July 4th 2021 Jul 3rd, 2021 | 468 Cues

I also love fireworks, but most of all want to be up close. We started setting off "safe and sane" fireworks eight years ago and moved to our current home on 50 acres 6 years ago.

I then learned I could launch aerial shells and, in 2016, shot off 48 shells with a blow torch. In 2017 I graduated to 200 shells with mortar racks and fuses. 2018 4th of July yielded a spectacular failure as a 20-minute show, with lots of planned fireworks, lasted 2.5 minutes. (It was spectacular).

2019 was the first show I shot with Cobra Firing Modules. Lasted the planned 25 minutes. This gave me a glimpse into what was possible with Cobra, and in 2020 shot my first show attempting timing to music. It was very successful with over 1000 people in attendance.

For 2021 I went from 2 72 cue and 1 36 cue modules to 6 72 and the original 36 cue. A crowd of over 1000 gathered and cheered a tightly timed show generated with Cobra Show Creator and shot with the Cobra Audiobox and firing modules. A mix of homemade mines, comets, 3 and 4" shells with commercial 1.4g fireworks ignited by homemade and MJG e-matches lit up the sky for 24 minutes. Our goals accomplished, bringing joy to our local community while being up-close to some big fireworks and dealing with crowd-induced anxiety. Thank you for your role in making this possible.

Celebrate America 2021 Jun 26th, 2021 | 525 Cues

I think my show is unique in that it is a pyromusical done mostly with fountains. The show is custom designed for a small backyard, to be low noise and within state firework laws.

Steve Lupkas

I am a self-taught, 51 y.o. male. I started off just helping out with lighting roadside stand, small fireworks at the annual family July 4th picnic. The show grew bigger and more complicated each year with the design and execution challenges and constraints of being in a small backyard, be transportable, set up within an hour or two and within state firework laws.

4th of July Jul 4th, 2021 | 580 Cues

Stash, set-up, and show we put on July 4, 2021. With the added slat positions, there were approximately 940 items fired during the show.

Stairway to heaven is dedicated to my brother Matt who passed many years ago but introduced me to that song.

I had to deal with a lot of smoke this year, so I tried to get the best camera shot available. The finale, unfortunately, has a lot of smoke.

There is also an effect around our retention pond of 14 mini slats connected to an 18m and covered about 800 ft in length. It worked very well.

There are also flame projectors, laser lights, and moving heads, all DMX controlled and triggered by the Audiobox and synced with timecode.

Made possible by the financial contribution of many neighbors and friends and the assistance of many volunteers to help set up.

In addition to feeding timecode to my DMX software, the audio box was used to get the music to 3 separate backyards, 2 with 4500w amps and DJ speakers, and a 3rd with QSC K12.2 active speakers using a Yamaha Yamaha MG10XU mixer. Drone video supplied by Ron Wood.

2021 Spring Showcase!

May. 13th 2021

Firework season is right around the corner, which means it is time for the Spring 2021 client showcase!

Inauguration of the Guadalupe Flyover

Congrats Gilbert, Ciro and Rury Salazar from Pyrotec S.A. in Costa Rica. A cool aerial shot of some highway pyrotechnics for introducing their President for an overpass inauguration. Something a little different and fun to share!

Pre-Wedding Celebration

This is a show brought to us by Soham Soni from The Igniters. This display took place during a pre-wedding night celebration in India. We liked how they incorporated stage lighting into the show. Great job Soham and team!

Stuntman School

This entry is not exactly a show, but instead a compilation from Action Training Productions, a stuntman school located in Paris, France. We thought this was really cool and highlights some of the other ways clients use COBRA besides firework displays.

Boom in the Sky NYE Show

The next show is from Adam over at Boom in the Sky. This is the show shot for New Year's Eve this past year. The show was primarily fired using a Cobra 18R2 Remote, 2x 18M and 1x 36M modules, and MJG and Talon igniters. This show also includes some pre-show setup footage.

Ice Palace 2021 at Opening Saranac Lake

Our last showcase comes from Santore's World Famous Fireworks, a display company local to COBRA. This display was the opening ceremony for the Ice Palace in Saranac Lake.

Finale 3D Oct - Nov 2020 Pyromusical Design Competition COBRA Award Winner

Feb. 26th 2021

Congratulations to the COBRA Award winner of the Oct-Nov 2020 Pyromusical Design Competition, Benedikt Walter of bene.events in Germany!

The equipment used in this show was:

  • 1x 18R2 Controller
  • 4x 36M with Onboard Cues
  • 16x 72M with Onboard Cues
  • 1x Audio Box

2020 Year-End Client Showcase!

Dec. 16th 2020

The year is coming to a close, that means it is time for the final client showcase of 2020!

Multi Cam Madness at West Point

The first showcase is a show shot at the West Point U.S. Military Academy on 9/6/2020 by Santore's World Famous Fireworks, a display company local to COBRA. This was a unique shoot, as it was fired simultaneously on two shoot sites about a mile apart. Neither shoot site had vision of the other. The music was broadcasted over FM radio for anyone local to listen along. The show used two 18R2s, two Command Centers, and, 28 18Ms.

November Rain by NEOPG

On November 7th, the Northeast Ohio Pyrotechnics Group was proud to continue the annual tradition of "November Rain", a fireworks pyromusical for the Niles and Youngstown Ohio area residents.

This was a massive COBRA show, using two 18R2's, two Command Centers, 80 18M modules, six 36M modules. The show was led and organized by Skip Martin, scripted and choreographed in Finale 3D by Skip Martin, Brian Tombow, and Vic Murray. Lead exhibitor (display and flame effects) was Mike Randall. Audio was broadcast over the radio from WHOT-FM (HOT 101 FM) from Youngstown, Ohio to an estimated 50,000 people in the proximity of Eastwood Mall watching the show. Products ranged from 1.3G/1.4G cakes and 1.3G shells up to 5".

Fenix Pyrotechnics Shopping Center Opening

This showcase comes to us from Dragan Šulejić from Fenix Pyrotechnics. The show was fired for the opening of a shopping center. This wass an interesting show that fired a massive amount of products in a very short time, right in the middle of the shopping center itself.

For this short show, Dragan fired 120 2.5" shells, 85 3" shells, 50 4" shells, and over 30 cakes of various calibers. He used one 18R2, eight 18Ms, and one 36M to fire this spectacular barrage.

Guy Fawkes Day Pyromusical 2020

Our last showcase comes from Chris Galvin with a pyromusical shot for Guy Fawkes Day in the UK. This is a testament to how far you can stretch a small number of modules, as he only used seven 18Ms, some sequencers, and a whole lot of mini slats. Chris manually triggered his self-built lights using an app on his mobile phone while the show was firing.

Summer 2020 Client Showcase!

July 23rd 2020

Now that we are past the 4th and Canada Day, it is time for the next client showcase!

Lost with You

This showcase comes to us from Zach McFarland. This was fired at a KCAP shoot in June. This show utilized 14 18M, an 18R2, and the Control Panel to fire 176 cues in only 4 minutes. Believe it or not, this was Zach’s first pyromusical!

Best Backyard Fireworks, Cypress TX

This is a video from Edmund Grillo’s July 4th show.  We think the description is best left up to Edmund.

“New stuff this year included a ‘ring’ around my retention pond about 800 ft long with 14 six cue mini slat stations that run off one 18m with a couple booster batteries with relays. It worked good and looked pretty cool in the drone shots. Also new was an additional 36m slat version connected to 3 new 40 shot racks from Big Time Pyro. I have 15 metal comet racks in all now (that's enough!!). In total there 15 18m modules, 8 36M modules, 72m, 11 36 mini slats, 5 18 mini slats plus a Cobra Audiobox.

The audiobox .mp3 had timecode on one channel and music on the other. Timecode was fed to my DMX PC software initiating and syncing a separate script running the lights laser and flames. Starting the COBRA script starts everything at the same time.”

Brittany and Madison's "Wishes" Wedding Fireworks

This show is a bit older but was just shared with us recently. Mike Allen shot this pyromusical for his daughter's wedding. This was his first big show using COBRA, having purchased the equipment a few months prior. For this show he used only an 18R2, four 18M's, 6 Slats, and an Audio Box.

July 4th Pyromusical

This show is from our very own Joel Robinson. Joel was lucky enough to find the time away from his work as COBRAs Product Manager to shoot a pyromusical this year! For this five position, 171 cue (over 110 single shot effects!) show Joel used an 18R2, 8 18Ms, a 36M, and the Audio Box.

Carolina Pyros July 4th Pyromusical

This show comes to us from the Carolina Pyros! This 15 minute, six-song pyromusical was fired with an 18R2, 16 18M’s and an Audio Box. This display really shows the benefit of club shoots when you see what is possible when members come together and put on a great show!

Guinness World Record - Most High-Explosives Detonated In A Film Take

Finally, for our last showcase, we have something different, an exciting scene sent to us by Duncan Capp over at IFX International Special Effects. This was a scene in a Finnish movie, “Unknown Solider” that currently holds the Guinness World Record for most high-explosives detonated in a film take. This scene used 14 18Ms and one 18R2 to fire 64.762 KG of high explosives (TNT equivalent of 70.5kg!) Congrats Duncan!

Spring 2020 Client Showcase!

April 17th 2020

It is time for our quarterly client showcase!

Pyroland Pyromusical

Description: Our first show comes to us from Paul Bercham. This is a consumer show, consisting of 100% Pyroland Product. This was scripted with the new COBRA Show Creator, and shot with MJG Initiators. Paul even put together a product list for anyone who was interested in the product used!

Gender Reveal Firework Show

Our second showcase is a a very special show fired by COBRA’s own Joel Robinson! This is a gender reveal show that Joel shot this spring. This contained 121 cues and was fired using an 18R2, Audio Box & eight 18M’s. It was spread out over 8 positions, five for single shots, and three for cakes/shells.

Guinness World Record - Largest Firework Shell

Our final showcase is not actually an entire show in the traditional sense, but actually something even more exciting and unique. In February, Jim, Eric, Ed & Tim over at Steamboat Fireworks literally made a world record when they designed, built, and ultimately fired the world's largest firework shell! An adjudicator from the Guinness Book of World Records was present on-site to verify the event.

This shell measured 62 inches in diameter and weighed 2,797 lbs. The completed 'shell' of the firework was over seven inches thick on its own and was filled with 380 individual comets. The mortar used to fire this was 5.1 ft in diameter and 26 ft long. The design and construction of this shell took over 100 combined man-hours spread across their team.

The shell was fired from a distance of about ¾ mile using an 18R2, and two 18M’s, one as a redundancy backup. An antenna and signal booster were attached to both the module and the remote. They had previously tested this setup and found they were able to achieve a signal level of -40 at a distance of over one and a half miles.

Join us in saying Congrats to the folks over st Steamboat fireworks and check out this breathtaking shell!

Winter 2020 Client Showcase!

Jan. 31st 2020

We have been collecting some stellar displays from clients for the last few months, and we are excited to release this quarter's Client Showcase!

The Explosion Show - Pyro Spectaulars

The guys over at Pyro Spectaculars reached out to us recently about a TV show appearance they made. The show is The Explosion Show. In this episode, the hosts visited Pyro Spectaculars' headquarters in Rialto, CA. Once onsite they spent some time with Jim Souza and Brendan Mckenney, exploring their facilities, learning a bit about the industry, and finally firing some fireworks off! They are featured in the second half of the show, starting around the 34 minute mark. Be sure to check this out if you are interested in seeing what a display company looks like behind the scenes!

Ohnostroj Nový Jičín 1.1.2020

Our second showcase comes from a client in the Czech Republic. This display was put on for New Years Eve at a local Art gallery, the Umělecká agentura LEV.

Ragley Hall 2020 - Firework Crazy

This display is brought to us by Firework Crazy, from the UK. This display was shot at Ragley Hall in Alcester, UK, the same venue the Firework Champions take place at!

INDAPARAPEO2019 - Pirotex

Our third showcase comes from Pirotex . This display was shot at the International Pyrotechnics Fair of Indaparapeo in Michoacán, Mexico. Be sure to check this display out as it contains a great soundtrack and unique use of DMX and lasers!

Midnight Storm Fireworks - Private Show

Our final showcase comes from Joe Finnigan from the UK. This display was shot for a private event in Scotland. Shell sizes ranged from three to seven inches. 95% of the product was from UK Firework company Celtic Fireworks. This display utilized around 645 cues. To fire all those cues, Joe used 36 modules spread across a 125 meter front, with about 150 meters between the front and back positions.

Summer 2019 Client Showcase!

Sept. 11th 2019

With summer quickly coming to a close we wanted to post a new client showcase to highlight some of the incredible shows that have been posted to our Facebook page.

Belgrade on the Water

This intense pyromusical was designed by two young Pyros, Nikola Petrovic (19) & Uros Petrovic (14) from Pyro-Team Fireworks Serbia. This short, four minute show contains over 1,500 single shot effects!

Lac en Fête 2019

This next showcase is brought to us by our French client, Artï Dream Pyrotechnics. This was one of the closing events of the "Lac en Fête 2019" which translates to Lake Party 2019. The Lac en Fête is an event located at the Lac de la Madone, a lake in Mornant, France. This is an end of summer event with live music, sporting and aquatic activites, food trucks, and even giant musical instruments! The team over at Arti Dream really knocked this show out of the park!

Ragley Hall Firework Champions 2019

This display is brought to us by Fireworks Crazy, from the UK. This show was an entry in the Firework Champions, located at Ragley Hall in Alcester, UK. This event is in its 14th year but is new to this venue. The event includes three of the UK’s best display companies competing against each other and a closing display put on by the organizers. The event is put on a total of six times each year at various locations throughout the UK.

Festival of Fireworks

This display was put on by a UK based client, Selstar Fireworks, as an entry into the Festival of Fireworks. Starting in 1999, the Festival of Fireworks is an annual event organized by Jubilee Fireworks and held at Catton Hall in England. This unique event is not a competition, which allows entrants to showcase their creative talents without the typical restrictions of display competitions. The event also functions as a family fun day. This years event boasted attractions like steam locomotives, vintage vehicles, and miniature engines!

XXXIX International Congress of Movement

In what is quickly becoming tradition, we are closing out the summer showcase with a display from El Volcan! This display was put on for an Alcoholics Anonymous 39th anniversary event. To be expected from an El Volcan display, the usage of layering and timing really shine here. They also showed off some unique usage of mines to create a parallax effect.

Backyard Choreography Client Showcase!

July 25th 2019

We are back with a very special client showcase! A little bit before July 4th, we hosted a Backyard Choreography Contest. We received an overwhelming 150+ submissions, much more than we had hoped! We wanted to be sure that these submissions are available for other clients to view, whether it be for inspiration, for fun, or just to see what other COBRA users put together, and how much equipment they used to do so. The contest was broken into 4 tiers, and we have broken the submissions down into the same tiers below. These will remain posted here indefinitely, so feel free to take your time exploring these shows.

  • Non Pyromusical - Shows that are not accompanied by music.
  • Small – Shows containing 180 cues or less.
  • Medium – Shows containing between 180 and 540 cues
  • Large – Shows containing more than 540 cues.

Spring 2019 Client Showcase!

May. 7th 2019

Now that the weather has warmed up, firework season is upon us! What better way to start the season off than with another Client Showcase!

Fireworks FX in Santiago de Cuba

This first showcase is brought to us by Fireworks FX, based out of Nova Scotia. In 2015, Fireworks FX traveled to Santiago, Cuba to put on a display for the city's 500th anniversary celebrations. This past year, they were invited back for a second time to put on another show. This showcase includes some behind the scenes footage showing a bit of the barge-based shoot site, as well as wonderfully shot footage of the show itself.

Blackjack's Product Demo & 40th Anniversary Finale

For their annual product demo, Paul Burcham from Blackjack Fireworks wanted to put on a show to demonstrate how extensively and creatively consumer products can be used in a professional style. Paul used 640 cues spread out across 35 modules for this show. We have also included behind the scenes footage filmed by Jesse from Passfire.

Waterford Tugboat Roundup

The third showcase is brought to us by our local partner display company, Santore's World Famous Fireworks. This show was shot at last year's Tugboat Roundup in Waterford, NY. We wanted to showcase this pyromusical as we really enjoyed the camera placement and angles, as well as the phenomenal drone shots. This video was edited by Brian Morey of Santore's. Be sure to watch until the very end to see the mortar-cam!

Villa il Sogno Resturant Opening Night Pyromusical

This fourth showcase is a display from one of our Italian clients,, PiroLand 90. This is a pyromusical for the opening night of a resort in Rome, the Villa Il Sogno. We chose to showcase this display as we loved the unique way the show slowly built from close proximity effects, into comets, into large shells.

El Volcan - Long live Rock & Roll!

It would not be a COBRA showcase if we did not include a show from our longstanding client, El Volcan! Check out El Volcan's take on this classic rock song!

December 2018 Client Showcase!

Dec. 26th 2018

We are back again with a small client showcase to wrap up the year!

Bohemian Rhapsody - El Volcan

Here we have one of our longstanding clients, El Volcan, with a beautiful show set to this Queen classic. You can see all the staples of an El Volcan show here, tight timing, comet chases, and gorgeous shells.

Crystal Palace Main Show 2018 -

This is a beautiful show put on by Selstar Fireworks from the UK. This was put on in London during the Crystal Palace Fireworks event, which is held in celebration of Bonfire, or Guy Fawkes night. Selstar really knocked it out of the park with this show. The combination of fireworks and lights really sets this show apart. This show utilized over 1,200 unique cues and 85 modules!

Ville de Voiron - Saint Bruno Church of Voiron

This show was shared with us by Julien Polizzi, and due to the unique nature, we really wanted to highlight this here. This show was shot in Ville de Voiron in France. The Saint Bruno Church of Voiron was used as both a backdrop for the show as itself, as well as a centerpiece of the show as effects were fired off it, and projections were placed on the church itself.

Belgrade City Wide Show - Pyro-Team Fireworks Serbia

We wanted to highlight this show by Pyro-Team Fireworks Serbia due to its great use of city space. This show was fired from 5 different positions simultaneously. This show contained used 525 unique effects spread out over eight 72M's. It was fired using the 18R2 and Control Panel.

2018 South American Games!

August 21st 2018

This summer, one of our Bolivian clients, Leonardo Mauricio Zelaya Salinas, along with the Fireworks Group Bolivia, planned, designed and executed the pyrotechnic ceremonies for the 2018 South American Games, held in Cochabamba, Bolivia. We were lucky enough to spot the post on facebook and give this display the proper attention it deserves!

The South American Games are a regional multi-sport event featuring participants from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The first games were held in La Paz, Bolivia in 1978. Since then, they have been held every four years. The competitions are similar to what you would see in the Olympic Games, encompassing various sports from disciplines such as aquatics, cycling, football, gymnastics, roller sports, volleyball, and others. This year Columbia placed first, followed by Brazil, and Venezuela in third.

Leo was generous enough to provide some insight on the equipment he used for these displays, as well as some video footage. The upper video is a video of the ceremonies themselves, and the lower video is a short documentary they produced chronicling their journey to make these shows a reality.

Mahd Fireworks Summer Showcase!

Jul. 2nd 2018

In May, one of our European dealers, Stephan Stotz, along with Allan Madsen and Mahd Fireworks participated in the annual Sternencup, or StarsCup. StarsCup is a German fireworks competition hosted by SternenGalerie. Every year pyrotechnicians from SternenGalerie form into 5 small teams of 6 to 8 people each to create a 5 minute pyromusical. Each team is given the same budget and timeframe to design the show. Teams compete for both the Jury Award, and the Audience Choice Award. this year the Jurys Award was won by Team Dänemark!

Sternengalerie is one of the biggest wedding fireworks companies in Europe, with over 400 weddings shot each year. Most of these events take place in Germany, but they also shoot in France, Austria, Switzerland, and Denmark. Around 70% of these shows are shot using COBRA!

We were also lucky enough to have Allan Madsen from Mahd Fireworks send us another video of a show they put on in Bohmte, Germany for Götter Dämmerung. Götter Dämmerung is an event held annually in Germany, hosted by Explosive Arts. Each year they invite a display company from another country to perform with them. This year they chose Allan Madsen and Mahd Fireworks and boy they did not disappoint!

Da Nang International Fireworks Festival!

May. 14th 2018

In late May Joel took a long submarine trip to Da Nang, Vietnam to join Team USA, along with Atlas Pyrovision for the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF).

DIFF is an international fireworks competition that is held in Da Nang Vietnam, in spring since, 2008. From 2011 to 2017, it was a bi-annual event, but from 2018 going forward, it will be held annually. The first DIFF had only four competitors and a very small crowd. Today, the event has grown to accommodate seating for over 30,000 viewers, as well as thousands more that watch from various parts of the city, including hotels, rooftops, and boats.

The shoot site is on the banks of the Hàn River, with the crowd on the Eastern side of the audience, and the pyrotechnics on the western side. The theme of this year was “The Legend of Bridges”.  The competition featured eight different competitors from eight different countries.

We are proud to announce that Team USA has beaten 6 of the other 8 competitors and is proceeding to the final round, on June 30th, against Team Italy. Check out the video on the right to view the incredible display that pushed Atlas into the final two!

Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship!

Mar. 29th 2018

Red Bull Crashed Ice is a world tour of a winter extreme sporting event, ice cross downhill, which involves downhill skating in an urban environment on a track with steep turns and high vertical drops. It is similar to ski cross and snowboard cross, except with ice skates on an ice track.

This year Rick Simpson, of Aerial Fireworks, was given the opportunity to provide the pyrotechnics for the event.

Rick used 9 18Ms and an 18R2 to fire this event, which was split into 4 segments. There was a kick off, final four contestant introductions, finish line award presentation, and a 4 minute designed finale display. The 4 minute display was fully scripted, while the other events were step fired manually.

We reached out to Rick to share his thoughts on the event, this is what he had to say:

What an amazing event! Aerial Fireworks got the opportunity to provide the pyro and fireworks for the Red Bull Crashed Ice 2018 World Championships. I am so proud of our amazing crews and volunteers who made this possible with 3 days notice. We have the best in the business!

Cobra has definitely become our system of choice, we have also recently added numerous 18R2, 36Ms, 18Ms, and audio boxes to give us 5 systems capable of shooting over 1000 cues. Thank you to Scott Smith and all the gang at Cobra. As a fireworks company shooting over 100 shows per year, we rely heavily on our firing systems and chose Cobra to replace our existing Pyrosure, Firelinx, FireOne and Pyromate systems for their reliability, durability, and simplicity. We have fired numerous shows in minus 39 degrees celsius (-36 F) and are pleased to report 100 % firing results.

El Volcan at the International Fair of Pyrotechnics!

Nov. 2nd 2017

The National Pyrotechnic Festival, which takes place in  Tultepec, Mexico, is an annual event to promote the country's tradition of production and use of fireworks.  The main event, a parade of "toritos" or bull-shaped frames with fireworks on them, began in the mid 19th century. The modern national festival began in 1989 and includes various events including fireworks competitions, but the main event remains that of the toritos, with about 250 "running" along the streets of Tultepec in 2013. The National Pyrotechnic Festival lasts for seven days and attracts more than 100,000 visitors to the area.

There are three main events along with amusement rides, concerts, dancing, and regional food. These events are split between the town center of Tultepec and the fairgrounds in the San Antonio Xahuento neighborhood

The first of the main events is a contest of "castillos". Castillos are frames made of wood, reed and paper to which various fireworks are affixed. These fireworks are set off to make images and/or parts of the castillo structure move. The castillos created for this event measure between twenty five and thirty meters, requiring about fifteen days to build. When set off, they take between twenty and thirty minutes to go through all of their features

The second, oldest and most important event is the "pamplonada." Named after the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain, these "little bulls" or "toritos" are also fireworks frames. These frames are made of wood, reed, and paper mache. They can measure anywhere from 20 inches to over 10 feet in height. The larger toritos are made by groups of thirty to forty people because of the cost and can have as many as 4,000 fireworks on them The toritos are giving names such as El Chico, Sagitario Toro Maya and Monster. In the 2013 event, over 250 of these toritos were registered to participate. The toritos are paraded on March 8, in honor of John of God, the patron saint of fireworks makers. The toritos proceeds over the various streets of Tultepec, setting off their fireworks for five to six hours until they arrive to the main plaza of the town.

The last of the major event is also a contest. This contest involves performances that combine fireworks and music. El Volcan, competes in this competition every year, and has won several times.
