Do It Yourself (DIY)

If you are feeling handy and wish to create your own Command Center using one or more of the modular kits, you are in luck! COBRA offers access to individual parts, kits and everything needed to build your dream DIY setup. For more information see Command Center DIY Center.

Due to the custom nature of the Command Center, please allow two - three business days for assembly before your order ships. If you need this for a show sooner than this, please reach out to us at 518-741-4300 or email us at [email protected]

*The Command Center does not come standard with an 18R2, Control Panel software, Android Tablet, Deadman Control, or 2.5W Booster. All in One Device

The Command Center is an all in one device. The rugged armored case supports the below COBRA equipment

  • 18R2
  • Booster
  • Tablet
  • 15,000 mAh battery
  • SMPTE Time Code
  • Deadman Control

Additionally, the unit contains an OTG board that allows the tablet and remote to stay connected within the case when loading scripts through the external USB port.

Modular Design

To avoid potential costly future shipping charges and facilitate easy self-repair, all internal components of the Command Center are fully modular. Any repair, service, replacements, or upgrades of any or all components can be done at home with only a screwdriver, without the need to ship the unit back to COBRA.

Rugged Armored Case

The Command Center is built inside a Seahorse SE-520 armored case. The SE-520 employs a single-wall injection-molded construction that makes it exceptionally crack-proof, crush-proof, shatter-proof, and impact resistant. Molded with Ultra High Impact Copolymer, the outer dimensions of the case are 14.9” x 12.1” x 6.9” (37.8cm x 30.7cm x 17.5cm).

Adjustable Tablet Mount

The Command Center supports tablets of all sizes up to and including 10.1”. We offer three different mounts depending on your tablet dimensions. The mount is adjustable and can be angled to be viewed easily at any height from a sitting or standing position. The tablet can be easily removed and re-installed in the Command Center without any tools.

Aluminum Constructed Faceplate

Instead of using the standard PCB material used in other faceplates, the Command Center faceplate is constructed from high strength aluminum. We made this change because we wanted the faceplate to be more impact resistant. The aluminum construction helps improve the overall durability of the product.

Key Switch

The Command Center uses a durable stainless steel three-position key switch. The three positions are:

  • OFF – This position is used when the Command Center is not being used. No connected devices will charge and no power will be provided to any devices

  • ON – This position is used when the Command Center is being used. The installed remote will receive power, and will be connected to the installed tablet via an OTG connection.

  • Tablet Charge – This position is for charging the tablet from the internal battery when on-site and you do not have AC power to use the Command Center charger. Note that when the key is in the Off position and the Command Center charger is connected, both the internal battery and tablet will charge simulataneously.

Battery Life

The Command Center contains a massive 15,000 mAh LiPo battery. The battery life is approximately 50 hours with no Booster connected, and about 40 hours when the booster is connected. If the internal battery is low or dead, the unit can still be used while the charging cable is plugged in and charging the system.

Charging Versatility

The Command Center is equipped with a charge port and battery life indicator. When the key is in the off position and the charger is plugged in, both the internal battery and tablet charge simultaneously. When the Command Center is in the ON position, the tablet will operate off it's own battery power as it cannot support both charge power and communication via the USB OTG communication. However, the Command Center does have a Tablet Charge key position that allows you to charge the tablet from the internal battery while the unit is off. This is a convenient option for when you don't have external AC power for the Command Center charger.

Notepad

The top of the Command center faceplate includes a dry erase notepad decal. This decal includes a dedicated area to note down the name of your show, the number of devices, the start time, as well as a open 6.5” x 2.6” (16.5cm x 6.6cm) area for miscellaneous notes. Included with the notepad is a high quality, refillable 0.6mm tipped dry erase marker. This marker has an incredibly fine tip, allowing for more detailed notetaking than you would achieve with a standard fine tip dry erase marker.

Storage Compartment

The Command Center features a built-in storage compartment measuring 3.5” (width) x 5.9" (length) x 4.1" (height) (9.1cm x 15.1cm x 10.5cm) at the bottom of the compartment and 4.1” (width) x 6.3" (length) x 4.1" (height) (10.5cm x 16.5cm x 10.5cm) at the top of the compartment as it angles down from top to bottom. This compartment can comfortably hold the Command Center charger, the deadman control, antenna, and keys. The width is also wide enough to accommodate a pack of 9V batteries.

External Connectors

The Command Center comes equipped with ports on the left and right sides of the case:

  • USB
  • Deadman
  • SMPTE
  • Charge Port

All ports are protected from the elements with the included permanently attached dust/moisture covers.

External Antenna

The antenna for the Command Center attaches to the outside of the top-half case. The connector comes standard with a permanently attached protective cap.

SMPTE

SMPTE (pronounced "simpty") is a way to shoot your fireworks show synchronized to music by sending an audio feed from your sound system to the COBRA 18R2 without using a COBRA Audio Box. You can also send the same audio feed to other systems (such as DMX and lighting) to synchronize them together with your COBRA system.

The Command Center was designed to be able to use your own equipment.

If you already own the below equipment, it can be installed into the Command Center and does not need to be purchased again:

  • 18R2
